Home Care in Glendale, AZ
Census figures put the average Glendale household at 2.8 people, and about 13 percent of residents are 65 or older. If the person who needs care lives with you or close by, their care has to fit around jobs, school runs and everyone else's week. Meridian Home Care offers non-medical home care in Glendale, with a caregiver who covers the hours the rest of the family can't. We come out to Glendale on a schedule set ahead.
Sharing a Glendale Household With Someone Who Needs Help
When everyone leaves for work, the house goes quiet. A caregiver can arrive after the morning rush. We help your family member with a shower and getting dressed, using the shower chair and grab bar if the bathroom has them. We make breakfast, give a reminder when pills are due and clear the dishes. Then we keep them company through the long middle of the day.
The rest of the visit goes where it helps. That might be their laundry, fresh sheets, lunch, or a slow walk to the mailbox before the afternoon heat. When the house fills up again in the evening, we head out. Our personal care page covers bathing and help in the bathroom, and the page on meals, laundry and housekeeping covers the rest.
Glendale OnBoard and the Rides It Doesn't Reach
Glendale OnBoard is the city's microtransit and paratransit service. It runs every day of the year, inside Glendale city limits only, and riders book through the OnBoard app or by phone. The city lists a $2 one-way reduced fare for riders 65 and over, and a Medicare card works as proof. For a trip to the store or the Adult Center, it can be a good fit.
Two limits are worth knowing. OnBoard stops at the city line. Trips to other cities go through Valley Metro Paratransit, and only for riders approved as ADA eligible. And a ride only gets your loved one there. It doesn't sit with them through a long appointment or put the groceries away at home.
That's the gap companion care fills. A caregiver can drive them to a specialist in Phoenix, sit with them in the waiting room and write down what the doctor says. On the way home, we stop at the pharmacy and help them in the door with the bags.
Lunch, Bridge and Chair Yoga at the Glendale Adult Center
The Glendale Adult Center on West Brown Street is a city-run center for adults 18 and over, open on weekdays. The schedule includes chair yoga, T'ai Chi, Zumba Gold, bridge, bingo, ceramics and an open computer lab. The YWCA serves lunch there at noon on weekdays and asks for a contribution. On the first Wednesday of each month, there's morning help with Medicare enrollment. The city lists a resident membership at $40 a year, or a $2 day pass.
Maybe the person you care for loved a Thursday bridge game but stopped going once driving got hard. A caregiver can help them get ready, drive them over and bring them home afterward.
Meals on Wheels in Glendale, and the Meals in Between
The YWCA runs the only Meals on Wheels program serving Glendale, and its deliveries come with a wellness check-in. YWCA meals are for adults 60 and over and younger adults living with disabilities. For home delivery, the Area Agency on Aging makes the final call on who qualifies. Weekday group lunches are also served at the Glendale Community Center on Ocotillo Road and at the YWCA's own site on 61st Avenue.
A delivered lunch covers one meal. Breakfast, dinner, the grocery run and the dishes still need someone. We cook at home from the recipes they love or the doctor's diet plan. We keep the fridge stocked, and in summer we keep a full glass of water by their chair.
Home to Glendale After Banner Thunderbird or Abrazo Arrowhead
Two Glendale hospitals are open around the clock. Banner Thunderbird Medical Center sits at 55th Avenue and Thunderbird Road. It's a Level I trauma center, and its services include rehabilitation, orthopedics, neurology and palliative care. Abrazo Arrowhead Campus is on North 67th Avenue.
Coming home is where we fit in. A caregiver can meet your loved one at the house and help them to their chair. For the first weeks, we handle bathroom trips, meals, laundry and rides to follow-up visits. The medical side stays with their doctors, nurses and therapists. Read more about those early weeks on our post-hospital care page.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a caregiver take my family member to an appointment outside Glendale?
Yes. Rides with a caregiver don't stop at the city line. We can drive them to a doctor in Phoenix or Peoria, stay with them through the visit and bring them home.
Will home care replace Glendale OnBoard or Meals on Wheels?
It doesn't have to. Those are public programs with their own rules. Home care can cover the hours around them, like dinner, a shower or company in the afternoon.
How far ahead should we call about help after a hospital stay?
As early as you can. If the person you care for is at Banner Thunderbird or Abrazo Arrowhead, call while they're still there. A little notice lets us set the schedule before they're home.
